Pairings often matter more than choosing roti or rice.
Portion first
Large portions of either grain raise glucose. Try a smaller portion with more other foods.
The plate around it
Dal, sabzi, curd or egg can soften a grain-related glucose rise. Aim for half vegetables, a quarter protein and a quarter grains.
Order matters
Small studies find lower glucose peaks when meals start with vegetables, then protein, then roti or rice.
Small upgrades
Options include millet flour in atta, cooled then reheated rice (more resistant starch), or parboiled or brown rice.
With your doctor’s input, track post-meal glucose for a few weeks to see what works for you.
