Why strength training matters for metabolism

How strength training supports metabolic health.

After meals, skeletal muscle takes up most blood glucose. More active muscle provides more storage and improves insulin sensitivity.

It is not just for gyms

Home squats, wall push-ups, lunges and bands count; progressively challenge muscles 2 or 3 times weekly.

A simple starting routine

Try squats, push-ups, bridges, rows and planks: 2 or 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps twice weekly. Add load or reps as able.

Protect muscle as you age

Muscle declines from midlife. Strength training and protein support metabolism, balance and independence; clients in their fifties and sixties gained muscle while losing fat.

Check first if you need to

With heart disease, uncontrolled blood pressure or joint problems, ask your doctor before starting.
